BurlingtonJunior School

Year 4 Area

In Year 4, children are encouraged to further develop their independence and creativity.  Our focus this year is on our attitude both towards learning and others.  We will be developing our manners and thinking about the way we conduct ourselves around school.

We will provide a safe and healthy learning environment in which children can express themselves freely, develop their reasoning and thinking skills, and continue their educational journey in the most positive way possible.

Year 4 Curriculum

For more information about our Year 4 curriculum, please open our curriculum overviews.

At the bottom of this page, you will also find curriculum letters which are shared with pupils and parents at the start of each term. In these letters you will find key dates and information about upcoming learning.

Year 4 Homework

Every week, pupils must complete the following home learning tasks:

Spelling

  • Learn and practise the spellings you have been given (these are on Google Classroom). The page at the back of your diaries may help you. Share your spelling practice with grown-ups at home.
  • You will be tested on these spellings during Friday’s dictation.
  • Do you know what these words mean?
  • Can you use them in a sentence?

What are the word’s synonyms and antonyms?

Reading

  • Read every day for 20 minutes.
  • If you have one, read your coloured reading book out loud to someone at home at least three times a week.
  • Update your reading diary every day with a comment about your reading.

Can you add a new book to your ‘book bingo’ page in your diaries?

Maths

  • Learn and continue to practise times tables up to 12 x 12 (including division facts).
  • Complete the Mathletics homework tasks that you have been set.
  • TT Rockstars times tables tasks - 10 minutes a day).

In addition to the above, pupils should complete weekly tasks which have been set on their homework task grid.

This information can also be found on Google Classroom.

What can I do to support my learning at home?

  1. Read as often as you can. Try to read a variety of texts and, if possible, read out loud to an adult. Have you completed any Book Bingo squares recently?
  2. Complete your homework tasks. These should help you to deepen your understanding of topics covered in school.
  3. Take a look at the Learning Links page on our school website. Here you can find some useful websites and resources which may help you when learning at home.
  4. Try to get your 144 club badge! Have a look at our times tables website page where you can find different activities to have a go at if you're trying to speed up.
  5. Check out our 'Things to Try Before you Leave Burlington' website page. You can also find this information in your school diary. Have you completed all of the tasks?
